South by Southwest: A Look Back at What DDB Did in 2014
Last year, over 30 delegates from DDB Worldwide attended the SXSW Interactive Festival in Austin, TX. DDBers from Alma in Miami, DDB and Tribal in Amsterdam, DDB Stockholm, Tribal Worldwide in Asia Pacific, Tribal Worldwide in Canada and DDB in the US enjoyed five days of exceptional presentations from a variety of artists, makers, tech all-stars and serial entrepreneurs.
DDB kicked off the fun last March with the launch of the “DDBot Photo Competition” that spanned the entire week during SXSW Interactive. Designed to accompany SXSW Interactive Festivalgoers the DDBot featured the agency’s bullseye on its front and DDB’s dedicated SXSW hashtag, #DDBDoesAustin on its behind. Photo entries were submitted through the use of the hashtag #DDBDoesAustin. Matt Eastwood, CCO of DDB New York, judged the competition and Alma’s Director of Strategic Insights, Angela Rodriguez, took home the award for best use of the two-inch figurine, earning her free registration to the 2015 Festival. See Angela’s winning snapshot, here.
Also, DDB New York and United States Tennis Association (USTA) hosted an out-of-home installation, called “Tennis Makes You.” The installation invited 2014 SXSW attendees to personalize their own version of USTA’s online films. The shareable videos were edited and posted on the company’s YouTube page.
The Age of the Alchemist returned in 2014 with a specialized workshop for marketers looking to transform forgettable experiences into meaningful ones through brand experience design. The brainchild of DDB California’s Executive Director of UX, Vincent Higgins, and Senior Planner, Tyler Wilson, the 2nd edition of Age of the Alchemist used “Communications Alchemy” – a methodology derived from Dungeons and Dragons – to put brands at the center of all marketing activity in the four-hour long workshop.
On Saturday, March 8, Omnicom Women honored Antoinette Hoes, Head of Strategy at DDB Tribal Amsterdam, during the reception, which showcased how agencies are inspiring change namely through DDB Worldwide’s successful International Women’s Day initiative in 2014.
